GAS ESCAPE?

Smell gas? Don't panic know what to do.

A suspected gas escape can be alarming, but knowing what to do can keep you, your family and your home safe.

If you smell gas, suspect a gas escape or are concerned that an appliance may be leaking gas, treat it seriously and act promptly.

First - what to do when you suspect a gas leak.

If you can smell gas inside your property:

Open doors and windows to help ventilate the property.

If it is safe to do so, turn off the gas supply at the emergency control valve (ECV) near your gas meter. (as seen in the picture)

DO NOT turn anything that is electrical including light switches on or off.

DO NOT use naked flames or smoke.

DO NOT use appliances or anything else that can create a spark.

Leave the property if necessary and keep everyone away from the suspected leak.

Call the national gas emergency service.

If you smell gas or suspect a gas escape, call the national gas emergency services on 0800 111 999.

What happens after the emergency visit?
